Announcing the new JFFixler Blog!

We are pleased to announce the launch of the new JFFixler Blog. Subscribe and enjoy postings with the latest research and tips to help you and your organization build capacity through innovative volunteer engagement strategies.

In the past month, we at JFFixler & Associates have logged over 15,000 miles of travel, bouncing from coast to coast and into Canada. As we launch the new JFFixler blog - the latest in our expanded array of resources and tools -- three of us have suitcases open yet again, packing for more conference presentations and work sessions with clients. At first glance, the travel may seem exhausting. Yet, each conversation we have with clients energizes us and continues to demonstrate the power of strategically engaging skilled volunteers. Whether we are working long-term with hospitals, libraries, health organizations, volunteer centers, museums, social service agencies, or others, we continue to see that organizational leaders who are ready to truly engage as partners with volunteers successfully unleash the abundance of resources that lies within their existing and potential volunteer corps. The results are inspiring. JFFixler & Associates is dedicated to re-inventing, re-engineering, and re-energizing organizations and their volunteer programs, and so our eagerness to work with them to design the next step in their volunteer engagement initiatives continues to grow.

It's an interesting time to be so optimistic about the future. While we approach the one year mark of a challenging economy, the headlines rarely lead with stories of abundance. Nonetheless, we see growth every day in our work with clients, in our travels, and through our research. Many nonprofits face an increased demand for services alongside decreased budgets - yet many also report noticeable increases in new volunteers seeking meaningful work opportunities.  Meanwhile, the national service movement in the US is experiencing a monumental boost of support and attention. With the signing of the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, this summer's United We Serve campaign which will conclude with the 9/11 Day of Remembrance, and the creation of www.serve.gov, we have incredible momentum to engage more people in volunteerism. This convergence of the national call to service, the desire of new generations of volunteers to find meaningful work, skilled professionals on the hunt for new work experience, and nonprofits' struggle to meet increased demand is an unparalleled opportunity for organizations to build their capacity by engaging skilled volunteers as partners in continuing - even expanding - their mission-driven work. These factors have come together to create the perfect storm for strategic volunteer engagement. The time is now to act and to engage. This is the moment to leverage the support for service, to invite skilled volunteers who already share a passion for your mission into your organization as partners with you, and to be entrepreneurial in solving problems within your nonprofit and within your community.

The JFFixler blog is many things. At one level, it is another way to access new and proven tools for volunteer engagement and organizational development. It is also an invitation to join us in the conversations that we find so energizing as we travel the field and work with clients. Whether we're on the road or in our office, we are committed to sharing new tools and tips, case studies from the field, our thoughts on recent research, and more twice each month. Just as important, we are truly interested in having an ongoing conversation with volunteer engagement professionals, nonprofit leaders, volunteers, and others. How are you experiencing this unprecedented moment in history? What trends are you seeing in volunteerism in your communities? What steps are you taking to respond? Share your thoughts, tips, questions, concerns, and triumphs. Join the conversation with us and we will make history together.
